Are they in the "Deleted Items" folder? If not, they have been
permanently deleted either because you deleted them from the "Deleted
Items" folder or used Shift+Del to *permanently* delete them.

If you or Outlook Express has not yet compacted the .dbx files then the
delete-marked items have not yet been physically purged from the .dbx
files. Go Google on DBXtract or DBXpress on utilities to yank out
delete-marked items that still exist in the database files.

If you manually deleted the messages then you can use the recover mode of
DBXtract or DBXpress to get them back partially -- attachments won't be
recoverable. However, if you deleted the entire folder of messages, then
the extract from disk feature of DBXpress may be able to recover the
messages. See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4

Steve, The below did not work in my OE6:
Importing single dbx files into OE

To backup and restore a single OE5 or 6 mail folder, save the appropriate
dbx file. To restore, create a new folder in OE5 or 6 (call it archiv1, for
example) and access it once. Then close OE and find archiv1.dbx and delete
it. Make a copy of the folder you want to restore and rename it to
archiv1.dbx. Then copy that file into the directory where the previous file
was deleted. Open OE and the messages you wanted to restore will be
accessible via opening that archiv1 folder.

Thanks, Bill

Please start a new message instead of posting on someone else's problem.

More information is needed.
Where did you get the dbx file that you are trying to restore?
What didn't work?
Is the file marked Read Only?

Ron, I've been chastised by others for starting a new message when there is
already a thread covering same issue. On to your questions:
Where did you get the dbx file that you are trying to restore?--From my
Message Store
What didn't work?--I made a new Folder called archive1, went into it one
time, closed OE, found archive1 in Message Store, deleted it, made copy of
Deleted Items.dbx, renamed it archive1.dbx, moved it to Message Store,
opened Message Store, it was there and of same size as Deleted Items.dbx,
opened OE, clicked on archive1 Folder, nothing there.
Is the file marked Read Only?--No is isn't

Thanks, Bill

If you have checked the View settings and no messages show, then the dbx
file is probably corrupt.
DBXpress in disk mode may be able to get some messages.

Ron,
That DBXpress looks like a good app, but can't afford it now. I'll check
with some of people I think I sent file to and see if they still got it.
Sorry for intruding on some one else's thread.

I reread your post.
'Restoring a single folder' will not bring back messages that have been
deleted.
Hope someone still has your file.
