Inbox.dbx still big after removing mail??

Hello,

I have a problem where a client is using Outlook Express and her
inbox.dbx is growing up to 1gb now. She has already experienced the
problems where outlook compacts the inbox.dbx so it doesn't go over
1gb. E-mail have been recovered and everything is fine.

I have created two subfolders 2005 & 2006. I have removed all of her
2005 mail from inbox.dbx and placed it into 2005.dbx and same for 2006
mail. This has reduced the the inbox by 3000 mails. However when I
go into her Outlook Express path for her identity the inbox.dbx is
still sized to 950mb.

Why hasn't the inbox.dbx changed or resized to appropriate size?

2005.dbx is now 250mb
2006.dbx is now 340mb

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you,
Darmin

Once the Inbox is completely empty, you can close OE then locate inbox.dbx
in the store folder and delete it. It will be recreated when you bring OE
back up.

Inbox.dbx still big after removing mail??

I had the same problem : I think the problem is caused by the work area
allotted by OE: if the size of any folder goes beyond 1gb, it does not
compact. I emptied the folder completely by moving into thre or four other
folders, and compacted the completely empty inbox. It then compacted to
minimum, and I move back what I wanted.

OE will place backup files (.bak) in the Recycle Bin before compacting a
folder.
After the successfully compacting the OE folders, create a backup.
http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx
Delete the .bak files from the Recycle Bin.

You'll have to compact again after the move. The move will delete the
original item from the source folder. That doesn't remove the physical
space occupied by that item in the .dbx file. The file has merely been
marked as deleted. To physically remove the delete-marked items, you
have to purge them, and that requires compaction in OE.
