IE/OE 7 - Windows XP
In message rules I set a rule to Reply With Message and included an ".eml" file. I get an
error "Your message rules did not Forward or Reply to 1 message(s) because the message
would have been sent to one of your accounts." This sounds as though the error is because
I sent myself a test and the reply is trying to send back to me through that server. The ISP
is Charter.net. Could this be something that could be configured to allow it?

Also, in OE7 Help, the "Away Status" indicates under Tools | My Online Status... I don't
have that option in Tools.

The Away Status is for Instant Messaging. Are you looking for an Out Of
Office type of reply?

If you do this, you will have to leave your computer on 24/7, be connected
to the Internet, and have OE open. If you want do this anyway, the link
below will explain how to do it. One thing I would suggest is that where it
says to create a rule and check For All Messages, you change it and make the
rule for people in your address book only. Otherwise you will be replying to
Spam as well.

Your ISP may offer this service which would be a better choice.

Yes, I want it as an Out of Office Type. I want it to reply only to one
specific
"To" address... i.e. addressed to a club's board of directors, to inform the
sender
that their mail will be reviewed and the type of response they can expect.
It is not necessary that this action be taken immediately, so I would think
it would not be necessary to stay connected with OE running, that whenever
I check & download mail (frequently) would suffice.

Is this a message that is being sent to a group, but you want the reply to
go to only one person, or is the message sent to you alone and you want to
reply?

Create a message as per the Auto Reply link. The procedure will be similar,
but not For All Messages.

Create the rule:

Where the From line contains people
Reply with message & Stop processing more rules
Click People and enter the sender's address
Click Message and follow the instructions for inserting the message.

The sender will be the only one to see the reply.

You can't test the auto-reply with an e-mail address that is configured
in OE. There's no way to disable that.

You could get a web mail account that you don't have set up in OE, or
perhaps have a friend send a test message.
