cannot restore newsgroup after reseting
I had some messages lost in a ng, and decided to reset it with maintenance
cleanup / reset. I cannot redownload the headers or whole messages in this group. Also a message posted to this group does not show up. I have tried deleting the dbx file also. Tried closing and restarting OE. I know the messages are there as Xnews downloads the headers each time it is opened. any suggestions appreciated. I hope I don't have to delete and reinstall the newsserver. That's the only thing I haven't tried. Tommy |

Did you uncheck Get XXX headers at a time? If not, do that followed by a
Reset & then Compact. Make sure the correct newsgroup/server is selected at the top of the Clean Up Now box. If still no joy, removing & reinstalling the news account may be the answer. In Tools | Accounts | News, you can export the settings. Reboot and then import the settings. That, at least will make it less painful. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Tommy McClure" tommylee9_2000(AT)yahoo(DOT)com wrote in message ... If there is corruption of the settings in the Registry, exporting and
importing will not solve the problem. Try creating a new Identity. If that works, then import from the old Identity. Delete the old Identity. -- Ronald Sommer "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... : Did you uncheck Get XXX headers at a time? If not, do that followed by a : Reset & then Compact. forgot to tell you , I was using Nfilter.
That was it. I switched back to the unproxied news server and refilled my ng. It works ok mostly, but this is a case where you can't reset and reload. Also, it has gone a little bonkers and needs reloading itself, had some unexplained missing messages not show up in OE. Problem solved. Thanks for suggestions. A nuisance, but I feel much better now. No one who wishes to use Outlook Express (or Windows Mail in Vista) should have anything from Norton or McAfee installed. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com |
