"work offline" problem
My Outlook Express v6 isn't behaving as I would like . . . I believe the
#&^%$ problem (minor as it may be) started after I downloaded a google toolbar but I may be wrong as to the timing. Anyway, the problem is -- that without me doing anything -- the "work online" normal black typeface changes to "work offline" grayed-out typeface kicks-in. This is very annoying. I don't want to go "offline" w/ grayed-out typeface in my workspace! This happens as well in InternetExplorer v6 too. Again, the timing was, I believe, when I installed a google toolbar . . . but I may be wrong. In any event, what can I do to permanently stop both Outlook Express v6 and InternetExplorer v6 from going "offline?" In other words, I want to remain "online" with dark black typeface and not "offline" grayed-out typeface. In addition, there's a pop-up that, well, pops-up (out of nowhere it seems) after I've minimized either Outlook Express v6 window or Internet Explorer v6 window which inquires whether I want to "work offline" or not and thereby kicks-in that darned grayed-out typeface! Talk about ANNOYING! H-E-L-P ! WinXP Home, SP 1 Thanks for your response. |
"work offline" problem
OE and IE share the Work Offline status, so you've got one problem.
Sounds like something is interfering with your Internet connection and so IE/OE think that you've lost the Internet connection. What type of connection do you have? Dial-up, cable, DSL, Wi-Fi? Are you running a firewall? If so, whose? And you should upgrade to XP SP2. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "JDoe" wrote in message ... "work offline" problem
Ooops. Sorry. I forgot to include that I am disconnected from the internet
when this stuff occurs. I'm wondering if an auto "up-date" from Microsoft could be the culprit? In any event, I'd sure like to kill this "work offline" gray-out stuff in both IE6 and OE6 including that darned pop-up. No big thing but "work offline" sure can be annoying. Yes, maybe I should upgrade to XP SP2 but have not done so as yet. Thanks for your immediate response, Mike. Regards. "Michael Santovec" wrote in message ... "work offline" problem
If you try to send or receive in OE either manually or have OE set to
check for messages every xx minutes (Tools, Options, General) and you aren't connected to the Internet, and OE isn't set to dial automatically (Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Connections) then you will automatically get switched to Work Offline in both OE and IE and won't be able to work online again until you establish a connection. The same thing can happen if you have IE open to a page that does some automatic refreshing and you don't have an open connection and IE isn't set to automatically dial (Tools, Internet Options, Connection) -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "JDoe" wrote in message ... You may have a look at tools..options..connections tab and be sure 'Hang up
after sending and receiving ' is not checked. "Michael Santovec" wrote in message ... Okay. OE was set to receive messages every XX minutes and I didn't have it
set to dial automatically. I've now disabled the option to receive messages every XX minutes. Thanks for your help, Michael. I'll see if this works and let the group know at that time. Yup. Did that. And it was not set to "hang up after . . . " however, I'm
trying what Michael Santovec has suggested and will report the results. Thanks for your input, Ricky. "Ricky" wrote in message ...
