For some reason when I'm replying to a message, the cursor is no longer at
the top of the page but, usually, is on the first line of the original message or, sometime, part way down the page. I've looked at all the formatting for read, compose etc but can't find anything to re-set the cursor to the top like it used to be...any help, anyone? |

Unless you have made changes in the registry, you may have a damaged
identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your messages from the old identity and delete it. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Tim Scott Mathews" wrote in message ... Tried it and the exact same thing happens. When I first hit reply, the
message window opens and for a brief moment, the cursor shows up at the top of the page then jumps to the first line of the message to which I'm replying. The same thing happens whether in mail or newsgroups, if that makes any difference. Any other ideas as to what it might be? I'm totally stumped. "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... Are you using QuoteFix, or a similar program? If not, we'll have to get some
input from someone else. I have never seen this before, but can't even imagine Malware, or any worm being the reason. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Tim Scott Mathews" wrote in message ... Sounds like you or some other user may have set your system to insert a
signature at the end of the message. Go to this key in the registry: In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{GUID involved}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0 And look for a DWORD entry "Reply At End" that is set it to 1. Change it back to zero and exit the registry editor. See if the problem is fixed. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. One of these may have been it. I tried the registry change but nothing
changed. I then removed a program called "hotbar" and that seems to have cured the problem. Many thanks "Jim Pickering" wrote in message ... I had installed a program called "hotbar" a few days earlier but, not having
noticed the reply cursor placement problem until yesterday, I didn't think of that program as being a possible reason. Thanks for the help, removing "hotbar" solved the problem. Hotbar is always a problem. It is spyware and should never be installed on

Glad it's fixed & thanks for letting us know the cause.

Check for third-party interference (not necessarily "malware" just incompatible programs you have added). A likely possibility in this category would be Motive SmartBridge monitor some ISPs install on their customers' computers which has in the past been suspected of interrupting keyboard focus in OE. http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/pr...ivesb.exe.html HTH Robert Aldwinckle --- |
