OEQB Problems

Hello
Win.XPHome (up to date), SP2
I have used this in the past with no problems. When I tried today I had four
balloons pop up. Three were Registry Errors:
1. Cannot export Address Book.reg: Error opening the file. There may be
a disc or file error.
2. Cannot export IAM.reg: ...continues as above...
3.Cannot export AllIdentities.reg: ...continues as above...
The fourth was an OEQB balloon: Run-time error '75' : Path/File access
error. I am the only user, with admin. privleges.
I tried running it in Safe Mode as user and the same results. I tried as
Administrator and when the OEQB box came up it read 'No. of identities 0 '
All the other times it read '2' which is correct. When I clicked 'Full
Backup' I had a message 'Cannot copy File. The file name you specified is
not valid or too long. Specify a different file name.' It didn't matter
what option I used or what file I specified, including creating a New File,
same results.
I uninstalled and re-installed OEQB, same thing.
I ran Spybot SD, Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster, CW Shredder, AVG free all up to
date and all came out clean. I ran Disc Check, clean also, then tried both
modes again, with same results.
The only recent program I have downloaded was Erunt, so I uninstalled it
(have yet to re-install) and tried again, same results. I System Restored to
prior Erunt, no difference.
The only other info I can offer is that two weeks age I was hit with SpyAxe.
I used Noahdfear's removal tool and have had no problems since. No problems
with OE, I do not archive in default folders, keep all folders small, empty
deleted items and TIF's daily and compact daily.
I AM NOT comfortable in the Registry, and do not play around there.
If anyone can help me or suggest an alternate program I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Terry

Please don't use super cryptive abbreviations, like OEQB, unless you are
deliberately narrowing your audience to only those that know what the
abbreviation means. I'm sure most readers would've just gone onto other
posts with a more intelligible subject.

Have you tried copying files into whatever is the destination folder for the
backup files? Have you checked the read permissions for the source folder
and the write destination folder to ensure you have the required
permissions? Sounds like the application is attempting to copy or create a
file but doesn't have access to the destination.

Have you checked the configuration for the backup application to ensure it
isn't pointing to a device or path that doesn't exist?

I'm not a OEQB user but the errors sound like problems with file
permissions. I didn't see any contact or other info on how to get support
from the author or a focused community (i.e., forum, specific newsgroup).
Doesn't look like the author wants to bother supporting his product so you
might have to abandon it until the author might update it (if permissions
isn't the problem or you don't discover the cause of the problem).

OEQB Problems

You can reset OEQB by deleting this key in the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OEBackup

That will not affect any other programs on the PC. Then you will have to
establish a default backup directory again. See if it works after that.

Otherwise we'll pull Majik in here, if he hasn't fallen through another
ceiling.

Steve
That worked - little scary hitting delete in the Registry. Any idea what I
may have done to neccessitate this, or should I wait to see if David picks
this up? I enjoy OEQB as it is so user friendly and I tend to trust programs
written by or reccommended by MS-MVP's.
Thanks for your help.

OEQB Problems

Hi Terry,

I think it can happen if you set the default backup directory and then
delete it or something. Anyway, that just resets the program.

Thanks for the kind feedback.

cheers,
