Error 421: Message Rejected
I am running OE6 and XP sp 2. This started a couple of weeks ago. We use
charter for e-mail. Can receive mail fine and can send out to one recipient. Cannot send to a distribution list (group). This particular group has around 25 members. I get the message: An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Testing', Account: 'pop.charter.net', Server: 'mail.charter.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '421 Message rejected', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 421, Error Number: 0x800CCC67 Does anyone have a clue? I have called charter, but their standard response is if you can do it through the web client, then it isn't our problem. I think it is something to do with their spam blocking, but maybe it could be an outlook express problem. Thanks in advance. |

It's possible Charter has limited the amount of messages you can send at one
time. Many ISP/Mail Servers do. Ask them what their limit is. "csenn2" wrote in message ... :I am running OE6 and XP sp 2. This started a couple of weeks ago. We use : charter for e-mail. Many ISPs set a limit as to the number of recipients to per message as
an anti-spam measure. For some the limit is as low as 5 or 10. Ask your ISP what their limit is. Or try sending the message with fewer and fewer recipients until it works. You'll need to delete the failed messages from the Outbox before retrying because the failed message will still be there and OE will try to send it again until it either works or you delete it. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "csenn2" wrote in message ... If you're putting the Group name in BCC, put at least one address (i.e.,
yours) in the TO field. =========== RIP KB208814 -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.org/ csenn2 wrote: I am running OE6 and XP sp 2. I am having a similar problem with charter.net. I can not send anything, but
I receive just fine. I got the same response from charter.net about it being an outlook express problem. Anyone have any more ideas???? "csenn2" wrote: I am running OE6 and XP sp 2. Are you getting the exact same error message, including the
Server Response: '421 Message rejected'? Like the original poster, are you sending to more than one person in the message? Look in your Outbox folder in OE. If there are any messages being sent to more than one person (TO, CC and BCC combined), delete the messages and see if you can send. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Randy" wrote in message ... 421 Message rejected', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:
421, Error Number: 0x800CCC67 Notice the part about SSL? Charter does not use SSL for their SMTP servers. Outlook and Charter server glitch? Just... Goto tools - accounts - mail tab - double click on acct. - click on advanced tab - Under Outgoing mail check 'This server requires a secure connection(SSL)' only for outgoing server. Try it. If it does work, then uncheck it. But I'm pretty sure it will work.
