IE6 is rendering invisible text
I recently re-built my computer, re-installing Win2K(+SP4)
to include IE6(+SP1). Now I find my Power User accounts do not get the proper response from IE6. Most everything is not visible at all. Its as if the text is the same color as the background because I can 'Select All' and copy and paste the missing text into Notepad. This happens for text on HTML pages, as well as text in Outlook Express. In OE every post is invisible (yet present when copying, or viewing the source). Even local html files do not get rendered properly. (Surprizingly, the HTML page from the MSDN 2427.1 disk (where I get IE6 from) does render correctly for power users!) My administrator accounts do not have this problem! As a test I created a new power user account, and saw it acted as other power user accounts. But when I elevated that Pwr User account to the administrators group the problem went away. Why do most html pages not render correctly for the lower accounts???? LFS |

Hi,
First check: Control Panel Accessibility Options Display. Make sure that High Contrast is not checked. Also click on Settings and uncheck Use Shortcut. That will disable the Alt+Shift+Print Screen shortcut to High Contrast. Then, Internet Options General Accessibility. For most users, nothing should be checked. You've been to Internet Options General Colors and verified that someone didn't choose white text and white background, right? Try disabling any BHOs, toolbars or third-party programs that would be affecting IE. Sometimes a BHO will cause problems on some, but not all user accounts. BHODemon from http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3550.html may help. Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "Larry Serflaten" serflaten[at]usinternet.com wrote in message ... I've read through a few of your other posts and saw the first two, but Im in an admin account now so I can't check this last, but looking at the options I would suppose it is set to use Windows colors. Try disabling any BHOs, toolbars or third-party programs that would be affecting IE. This is all pretty virgin at this time, as I said, I just re-installed the OS... I'll have to check to see if I can set those colors on the other accounts, but it would be surprizing that such a setting would only effect members of certain groups. Thanks.... LFS |

Well, I verified that wasn't the problem. Just for something to try, I re=regisyers that list of internet tools (DLLs) shown in a KB article that was part of someones reply. That didn't get it. What I have noticed is that on one game that I have (Age of Empires) the title screen option buttons had really small print. So small they were only rendered as a single line. But log on as an administrator and the title screen is fine. LFS |

Couple of things you might try for the text size: In the User account, and where the text is to small, hold down the Cntrl key and roll the mouse wheel back or forwards to see if that makes it bigger. Some websites seem to make the text too small or too large, and this can often let you sort it out to a size that suits you best. And, try resetting the text...Go to ViewText and select a larger size, close and reopen IE and see if that helps. Hope this helps. Hi,
(Age of Empires) the title screen option buttons had really small print. So small they were only rendered as a single line. That's trying to provide a hint, but I'm not picking up on it. Sorry.
