Send midi in OE
 

Occasionally I send music along in an Oulook Express email and I have always
been successful whether the music be midi, wav, or mp3. All 3 formats have
worked but today I cannot include a midi. I can send a wav or an mp3. The
midis will play if I open them from my hard drive but I can't put them into
an email. Any ideas?

The volume setting ranges from -10000 to 0 with -10000 being off and 0 being
full volume.

Before you insert the background sound you need to make sure your volume
setting is correct. Double click the speaker icon by the clock. For a MIDI
file it will use the volume control labeled "SW Synth" or something similar.
It may vary depending on your sound card.

You can check your settings by clicking the Source Tab at the bottom of the
Compose Message window and looking for this tag BGSOUND balance=0
src="filepath to soundfile" and setting the volume to zero (0).

If not already there, View | Source Edit - Check it.

I am not too sure of what I'm doing but attached are screen shots of the
areas I think you are referring to. I don't see anything that you described
in the first shot and I tried both settings shown in the bottom screen shots
but neither worked.

Bruce, Solved my problem. As you can see from the attached screen shot the
Midi volume was set at the lowest (red arrow) Don't know how it got there--I
didn't do it. When I changed it to the highest setting (green arrow)
everything was fine. What you said about the zero setting and the 10000
setting got me thinking so I poked around and stumbled onto the solution.

Open a new message window. Double click on the speaker by the clock. If the
slider is all the way down, when you insert the midi and check the source
tab, you will see something similar to this. Note the volume is 9640.

BODY bgColor=#ffffffBGSOUND balance=0 src="C:\WINDOWS\Media\town.mid"
volume=-9640

Open a new message window and before you insert the background midi, double
click on the speaker and move the midi slider all the way up. When you
insert the midi, you should hear it fine, and clicking the source tab will
reveal this difference in the volume setting. Now it is 0, which is full
volume.

BODY bgColor=#ffffffBGSOUND balance=0 src="C:\WINDOWS\Media\town.mid"
volume=0

These settings can get changed by receiving a message with a midi that was
inserted with low volume.
