... How do I get the actual fax # for my Windows Fax Messaging Service, what about Digital Line Filters, how do I fax over the internet without using a fax machine? http://www.efax.com/ http://www.tpc.int/ If you already have a fax-capable modem, you can use it to send faxes and use a free account at eFax to receive faxes via e-mail. TPC.com assumes you have a fax-capable modem so you can use their volunteer network of fax users providing the free service. Be aware that it is an unreliable service. -- _________________________________ ** Post replies to the newsgroup. For e-mail, add "#VN" to Subject. _________________________________ |

Then you have to pay. Alias Use the Reply to Sender feature of your news reader program to email me. Utiliza Responder al Remitente para mandarme un mail. |

Then you have to pay. I've had a freebie eFax account for over 4 years. Still free. Still works. Even if a free account expired after a year, why would you care? Just get ANOTHER free account. -- _________________________________ ** Post replies to the newsgroup. For e-mail, add "#VN" to Subject. _________________________________ |

You can use "http://www.faxaway.com/index.shtml" but it isn't free. There is a $1 per month service charge, plus 11¢ per minute in the U.S.. You get a Seattle based phone number. Incoming Faxes are free, other than the $1 per month service charge. For free incoming with no service charges, use "http://www.k7.net/" which appears to somehow be related to faxaway. eFax is also free for receiving, but eFax has some technical issues which prevent some received Faxes from opening. I.e., one of the faxes I receive the most, a listing of wholesale mortgage rates, simply cannot be opened with eFax, it always claims that it has a "bad format" though other faxes from other senders are received just fine on eFax. eFax could never figure out the problem, so I didn't open a paid account there for outgoing faxes, and switched to k7.net for free incoming. You could also just use a fax-modem in your PC, connected to your phone line. It appears as if you think that you somehow have the ability to directly FAX over your broadband connection, but you don't. If you do a lot of outgoing faxing, then it's worth it to connect your PC to a phone line, but for just occasional faxing probably paying the $12/year to faxaway, and paying per page, is a good plan. It's too bad that none of the ISPs offer an outgoing FAX service on just a cost per page basis. It wouldn't cost them much to set it up. OTOH, most of the places I fax to are just as happy to receive an e-mail with an attached PDF or TIF of the document, as they are to get a Fax to their Fax machine (because often they are using electronic fax reception anyway). I.e., I did my last two mortgages using that method, and the lending bank was happy to get e-mails. |
