Unable to check emails since Upgrading to Internet Explorer 7

Hello everyone,

I need confirmation witha recent issue... Earlier this week I finally
decided to update Internet Explorer to Version 7.0, figuring I waited long
enough... I completed the download and install, and it seemed to work fine...

That is, until I decided to check my latest emails using Outlook...

I am still not having problems when looking into my Comcast and AOL emails,
but the problems started when I noticed that I was not connecting to my
Hotmail account... I checked the progress window, and it showed a 'Warning'
indication when it tried to access my Hotmail account, but no error message
was displayed...

Also, when I tried looking into Hotmail Inbox, I kept getting an 'Unknow
Error has occured; message...

Has anyone else run into this issue?

While looking into the Outlook Support page, I found the following article:

'Authentication fails when you use Outlook or Outlook Express to try to log
on to an HTTP-based mail server if you use Internet Explorer 7'

To make a long story short, it is indicating to download and install a 'fix'
hey have for this problem... Has anyone tried this fix? And for those who
have, did it solve their problem?

Any info would be appreciated...

Thanks,

Eddie

Outlook and Outlook Express are not the same application. This is an
Outlook Express-specific newsgroup.

Authentication fails when you use Outlook or Outlook Express to try to log
on to a HTTP-based mail server if you use Internet Explorer version 7.0
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/904942

904942 was released quite some time ago. It should address your problem.

My bad, I keep forgetting to make that reference clear... I can be a bit
lazy at the keyboard from time to time...

Each time I mentioned 'Outlook' in my post I should have stated 'Outlook
Express'... OE 6 is the email application that I currently use...

I'll be trying to download and apply the fix stated in the article...

Thanks,

Eddie

YW. There was a time (i.e., during the IE7 beta & shortly after IE7 was
released) when you'd be prompted to install 904942 during the installation
of IE7 if the installer detected an MSN/Hotmail account running in OE or OL.
Why this was disappeared, I dunno.

It should be listed as an Optional update at Windows Update website (select
Custom intall) for you now.
