Default Overtype instead of insert

A friend of mine has the problem that sometimes while he is writing an email
it goes into overtype instead of insert . Has he somehow hit some hotkey to
do this or why does it happen?

TIA

B.W.

Usually it just means that someone has hit the "Ins" key located on the
NumPad by mistake. Hitting it one more time should fix the problem.

I thought that location was picked deliberately...

Okay; I will just get my coat and hat and leave, now.
