Default Outlook Vs Outlook Express

Windows XP, FrontPage 2000, IE7, OE6
There is a link in a web page that when clicked should open Outlook Express.
Instead, it apparently opens OUTLOOK, and then pops up an error that
OUTLOOK.EXE has encountered a problem...

I do not use OUTLOOK, never have. How did it get there? What's wrong?

Earl

Ahhh, found it. Apparently in IE | Internet Options | Programs, the default had
gotten changed somehow.

Is Outlook installed? Be sure to see that link.

Make OE the default e-mail client:
http://www.oehelp.com/oedef.aspx

Restores OE to the E-mail clients list in Internet Options
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/oe_client.htm

If you have MS Outlook installed, also see:

(Only required because above poster used QUOTED-PRINTABLE format.)
Do not use quoted-printable format.
* Not all NNTP clients handle quoted-printable format.
* Quoting gets mangled, especially for replies.
* No clear delineation between content for poster and respondent.
Do not use HTML format when posting to Usenet. Use plain-text format.

Links do not open any specific application. They specify a protocol
and whatever client is assigned to that protocol gets opened. You
have Outlook designated as the MAPI client so that is what opens when
you click on a mailto:// link (you never bothered to specify what
protocol was specified in the link that you choose not to provide an
example).

You probably did a default install of Office. Now every time Outlook
updates you will have to reset OE as the default. Put the following line as
the only line in a Batch file and run it every time this happens:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg
