OE disabled URL links in SP2?

Hello,
I have shiny new Dell computer, about 2 months old. SP2 came
pre-installed, as did this copy of OE 6. When I get an e-mail with a link, if
I click the link I see the title bar flash, but it doesn't open an IE window
and load the URL.
I know that SP2 implemented security features to prevent loading
malicious pictures and attachments. I also know that there are options to
disable these features, under the Security tab in the Options dialog box. But
I don't see anything that re-enables the links.
I did see some goofy Dell-provided program that nagged me about lower
security settings when I tried changing things (from "Disable" to "Prompt"
only), so I suspect that might be a related issue.

Why are my links disabled--and how can I fix it?

Thanks

OE disabled URL links in SP2?

From:
http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

If nothing happens when you click a link:
Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

If you get a blank page:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.

4. If that doesn't fix it, see this article:

http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#new_window

5. If you are using WinXP try this:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/reg/IE...lt_Browser.reg

You can also try this:

Go to Start/run, and type SFC (msconfig for WinXP).
Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk' ("Expand File" for WinXP).
Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which is
probably in the Win98 (i386 for WinXP) folder of your installation CD-ROM
(typically D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs (Windows\i386 for
WinXP) folder, as the case may be.

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System (C:\Windows\System32
for WinXP), and click OK. System File Checker (or msconfig) looks for the
file, saves it as you requested, and then tells you that 'the file has been
successfully extracted'.

You may need to reboot.

Tools | Options | Read
Uncheck Read all messages in plain text.

It is safer to leave that checked and copy and paste the URLs into the
Address Bar.

OE disabled URL links in SP2?

I think this solution is a little dated. These instructions might work on
95/98/ME, but are useless on XP. Closest match in the file types (even on a
working system) is:
Extension: URL
File Type: Internet Shortcut
it is registered as follows:
Opens with: Shell Doc Object and Control Library
with 3 actions:
Open
rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %l
Use DDE
Application: shdocvw
Topic: System
Print
rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\mshtml.dll,PrintHTML "%1"
Use DDE
Application: mshtml
Topic: System
Printto
rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\mshtml.dll,PrintHTML "%1" "%2" "%3"
"%4"
Use DDE
Application: mshtml
Topic: System

All of which illustrates a moot point, because apparently URL protocols are
not specified in XP as a file type.

As an aside, I'd like to note that I've tried the regsvr32 urlmon.dll trick
too, and that also proved ineffective.

Is there a "repair" function for OE, like the "repair" function of Office
Setup (as accessed from Add/Remove Programs) ? That would probably do the
trick!

Searching for "URL" in the registry proved simply too tedious to be useful.

Thanks.

It's not outdated, but there is mo

See if this works.

StartRun type, or Copy/Paste, these in one at a time and try again. (Note
the space in each command).

regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 urlmon.dll

In IE, go to: ToolsInternet OptionsPrograms. Click: Reset Web
Settings - (uncheck box for homepage) - Click Yes.

If still no joy, you may have a damaged identity. File | Identity | Add New
Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your
messages from the old identity and delete it.

OE disabled URL links in SP2?

The OpenURL action is incorrect. What's there sometimes gets stuck in
there, but the correct setting is what is listed he

www.oehelp.com/ielnk.aspx

In XP URL:HTTP protocol is listed as is URL:HTTP for privacy and they both
need to be fixed.

You can also try going to Start | Program Access and Defaults and make sure
IE and OE are default and that should fix it.

You just plain did not look hard enough.
