Problem with blank messages in OE6 Newsreader
Problem happens at random. I have been using OE as a newsreader for a
while and this problem just started. I can go to a group (like alt.autos.gm) and download the headers. Then start going through them and download the ones of interest. The problem is that some will show up blank. I know there is a post there because the replies show the text. Some of the replies also show up blank. I have seen this question before but have forgotten what the repair was. I know it is not a virus or spyware. The problem ONLY happens in newsgroups. I have tried resetting and deleting. Also have deleted the account and then setting it up again. Have deleted the folders and rebuilt them as well. Problem still there. What am I missing? Thanks. -- Steve Williams Near Cooperstown, New York |

ME, OE6
This past week was the first time I have had this problem. Went back and looked for any installed programs that may have caused it and cannot find anything. No new hardware. May set up another machine on the same server and see if it has the same problem. Maybe the server is going flaky. Steve W. "PA Bear" wrote in message ... Is the machine fully up-to-date at Windows Update? If you to go Windows Update, is an OE Cumulative Update (837009) offered to the machine? Nothing so far has made a difference. That update isn't offered. I do get 905915 that locks up the machine on restart if I try to run Zone alarm. Still trying to get around that one. I'm almost wondering if there isn't a problem on the server. I don't think this problem is happening on the MS server that this group is on. At least I haven't seen it yet. -- Steve Williams Near Cooperstown, New York "PA Bear" wrote in message ... I'm almost wondering if there isn't a problem on the server. I don't
think this problem is happening on the MS server Well, this is new information. (IOW you didn't say that this didn't happen using the MS newsserver.) On what newsserver(s) does this occur? All newsgroups on that server or just some? If only some, which ones (earlier you gave alt.autos.gm as an example)? -- ~PA Bear Steve W. wrote: Nothing so far has made a difference. Totally OT/Unrelated: Current versions of ZA are notoriously problematic in
Win9x. Perhaps ZA's the problem, not 905519. -- ~PA Bear Steve W. wrote: snip I do get 905915 that locks up the machine on restart if I try to run Zone alarm. Still trying to get around that one. |

Yours or another poster? If another poster, is it from a different server? Check the Message-ID for clues. E.g. for your Ctrl-g reply, OE by default generates a news: link to the original Message-ID. Otherwise just use the Message Properties, Details tab (e.g. press Alt-Enter,Ctrl-Tab,Tab); then CursorUp to find that header, doubleclick on the Message-ID beside the header and capture it to ClipBoard.) Post an example Message-ID or go to Google Groups Advanced search page and use it to see if it has the source. Then use Google Groups Show original option to see what the original source was. My guess for something which you might find using this diagnosis would be that the original post was written in HTML with no text-only component. The next requirement for my scenario would be that your server strips HTML content from news messges as a matter of policy. HTH Robert Aldwinckle --- |
