Default Unable to connect to server

I posted a slightly longer version of this question to:
'microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.outlook express'

on the 8th. No answer and group looks kinda dead except for spam.

Tried to setup mail client OE6 and received this error message:

Unable to connect to server
Protocol: nntp
Port 119
Server (ssl): 0

My anti-virus (Advast) shows:

Local Host Port 119 Listening
Protocol: tcp

My e-mail is Hotmail.

Suggestions....

Regards...

You are in:

'microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.outlook express'

right now and there are no previous posts from your address in the last 90
days. Must have been another group.

Port 119 is for news, not email. Can you elaborate?

Hi, Sorry, I'm not trying to be smart. Let me explain.
On this set-top box this group shows as:
ie6_outlookexpress (Note the under-score)

On my pc ie6.outlookexpress on a search comes up
ie6.outlookexpress.stationary

On my pc ie6.outlookpress is not the same group I and and you are
exchanging messages on now.

I,m going to go back to my computer and paste the page in that group I
referred to.
I will do to the limitations of this webtv box do so in another separate
message.
Sorry, only way I can.

Thank you for the links, I will read them and get back if I have any
problems.

When I search for:

inetexplorer.ie6.outlookexpress (no underscore), the only groups are the OE
Stationery, and Wishlist newsgroups.

Neither of these will be of help to you.

While some newsservers continue to carry it,
'microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.outlook express' hasn't been a
newsgroup carried on the MS newsserver for many years.

Here's your post/thread in the other newsgroup, as archived in Google
Groups:
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...5a793c01df2524

Use the following link to open /this/ newsgroup in OE using the MS
newsserver:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...tlooke xpress

My e-mail is Hotmail.

You cannot access your Hotmail account in OE unless you're a Hotmail Plus or
MSN Premium subscriber.

I don't recall the reason, but that group is mostly ignored because there
was a problem with the server. This is the active group.

The problem was the group name was setup first with the underscore. After
Microsoft started the group without the underscore, very few people switched
or used the newsgroup.

CB is not posting via the Microsoft news server.but via bay.webtv.net.
So CB picked up an obsolete newsgroup.

Nope.
It was first set up with the dot. When that stopped working on the
Microsoft servers they set up the one with the underscore.
