Default POP 3 settings change on switch off

I have a computer I maintain for a friend, using AT & T for email.
Whenever I open Outlook Express, the POP3 server shows 127.0.0.1
If I change it back to postoffice.worldnet.att.net, the proper setting,
close down Outlook Express, then re-open OE, it re-sets to 127.0.0.1
I have tried deleting the mail accounts two in number and reloading but the
problem continues.
Any ideas would be appreciated

This is caused by the e-mail scanning in your anti-virus. Turn it off. It is
a redundant layer of protection that will not leave you vulnerable without
it.

Did this work? as have same problem, using McAfee and cant see where to turn
of scanning. Seems strange because I have not changed any settings and it has
just started happening.

I have to dust off a few cobwebs, but open the Security Center (The McAfee
icon by the clock) and then VirusScan on the left. It's in there somewhere.
The problem can start at any time.
