I recently redid my hard drive with XP, SP2 etc. Since then some email
recipients can open attachments from me - small word files - and some can't. I've checked the OE settings, and have set them the same as on my other pc, which works fine. The same problem occurs if I send using Outlook, but not if I send using Pegasus. Also, I can send OK from my btinternet webmail on that pc. Some of my recipients are pretty savvy and they've told me the files are a bit smaller than they should be when they arrive. For one recipient, they arrive as "mim" files - so he says - but for the otehrs they look lie Word docs. My recipients can open the attachments using their own webmails, but not using Outlook or OE in XP. I've no idea what this is - can anyone help? Thanks. |

Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Advanced make sure that Break Apart
is NOT checked. Also check your anti-virus software and make sure that it is NOT set to scan outgoing mail. As for the MIM problem, that was an issue with recipients using very old versions of AOL. I wouldn't expect that people are still using that, but who knows. The issue is that old versions of AOL have problems when a message has more than one attachment or a single attachment in an HTML format message. The solution is to only use plain text format for sending and not include more than one attachment to those people. For some additional information, see: Decoding Internet Attachments - A Tutorial http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/decode.htm If you still have problems, you may e-mail me a message with a small attachment and I'll take a look at it to see if there is anything that could cause problems. e-mail: -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Sago48" wrote in message ... Can you successfully open an attachment to a message you've sent to yourself

Then one must presume that the problem isn't on your end.

![]() I thought that to, but if I send using Pegasus it works. I've turned off the email scanner but that seems not ot have made any difference. Again, the problem is not on your end, assuming OE Tools | Accounts | Mail |
[account] | Properties | Advanced | Break apart messages larger than... =this option is NOT checked/enabled. Tip: See if using Plain Text format makes any difference in the way messages & attachments are received my your correspondents. -- ~PA Bear Sago48 wrote: I thought that to, but if I send using Pegasus it works. Perhaps Pegasus is using a different attachment format and encoding then? (E.g. UUEncode instead of MIME, etc.) Also you mentioned Outlook. What is the default Mail hander? If it's Outlook instead of OE, try (temporarily) making OE the default and see if your symptoms change. Otherwise the problem may be one to be solved in Outlook rather than OE.
