Can't forward or reply with OE6

All of a sudden I can't reply or forward messages thru OE6. I can send
meassages if I create a new message. When I reply or FWD the OE6 acts normal.
It goes into my Out box and then disappears and it can be found in my sent
box. There are no error messages. I can receive messages fine (as far as I
can tell). Nothing has changed to the best of my knowledge. I've been playing
around with this for several hours and here are the bullet points:

1) Can't reply or FWD, but can send new msg
2) Can received mgs.
3) I can send/receive/reply/FWD on the webmail account that OE6 looks at
4) I've disabled my Norton email scanning with no luck
5) I've updated my IE from 6.0 SP2 to 7 with no luck
6) From a purely visual perspective the outgoing email does exactly what it
should do but it just doesn't get there

I'm at a total loss please help.

Can't forward or reply with OE6

Create a new Outbox & Sent Items folder, and if that doesn't do it, create a
new identity.

Do the following for the Outbox, and for Sent Items after you move any
messages you wish to save to a local folder you create.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Write the location down and navigate to it in
Windows Explorer.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Outbox.dbx &
Sent Items.dbx} and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when
you open OE.

To create a new identity:

You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main
Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it.
If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old
identity and delete it.

General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your
mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and
leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.

Can't forward or reply with OE6

You can't /send/ a Forward or Reply or you can't open a Reply ot Forward
window?

Assuming the former:

1a. Move any messages that you want to keep out of Sent Items and Deleted
Items folders and into other local OE folders you've created for archiving
(saving) such messages.

1b. Move 99% of your messages in your Inbox folder to other local OE
folders, too.

2. Write down the location of your identity's store
(http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm#storemain).

3. Close OE.

4. In Windows Explorer, navigate to your store folder, find & delete the
files Outbox.dbx, Sent Items.dbx, and Deleted Items.dbx.

To avoid such problems in the futu

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not shut down your machine while Windows is
automatically compacting your message store.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

Can't forward or reply with OE6

Look in Tools, Accounts, Mail. Do you have more than one mail account
there?

New messages us the default account, which seems to be OK. Replies and
forwards use the same account which downloaded the message. There may
be something wrong with that account for sending. Compare the settings.
