What I"m curious is to WHY or HOW it happened.

Meaning, I'm glad I got it fixed, but why did it happen or what caused it to
do it, so one can be aware of it in the future.

cheers
tom

It worked! What Michael mentioned about doing the registry.

Your original post asked about *receiving*, not *sending*, e-mail with
attachments. What happens when you try to send? If you receive an error
message, please post it in its entirety.

Ok, so how do you allow Outlook Express to send with an attachment.
May not be an Outlook issue, but Sympatico, but they said it isn't
theirs.
We can send via Hotmail.

Thanks Tim,

That certainly did the trick.

Hi battersby,

This feature is meant to prevent opening unsafe attachments. Use your
best
judgment.

To turn off the Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that
could potentially be a virus option:

1. Start Outlook Express.
2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
3. Click the Security tab, click to clear the Do not allow
attachments
to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus check box
under Virus Protection, and then click OK.

When I receive mail with an attachment, I have a message that says:

OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail:
****.doc

Any suggestions on how I can modify this behavior??

Thanks,
Battersby

Malware is a common cause for an unwanted registry change. Why, or how is
usually a mystery. There is always the standard: OE Happens.

I'm glad it is fixed and will document this episode with the hopes to help
others in the future, should someone be blessed with what you just went
through.

Again, thanks for the feedback.
