I called my isp + the nnt they gave me was newsgroups .comcast.net.
I followed all the instructions and when I downloaded newsgroups none of the
windows ones could be found -I use windows xp help and support all the time
but awkwardly so I am trying o.x.
Can you explain why I cannot get windows?
Thank you

Maybe that server doesn't carry the MD newsgroups. Set up MSNews directly
and you don't need your ISP's service to do this.

See Bruce's reply.

Click on this link to open the newsgroup in OE:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...lp_and_support

FYI, that newsgroup is supposed to be about Start | Help & Support
(literally). Try WinXP General instead:

None of the Windows WHICH VERSION could not be found? Comcast
contracts their newsgroups service from Giganews who carry all the
microsoft.public.* newsgroups. Most likely you didn't enter the
correct string to find the groups you were looking for.

I'm a Comcast customer. I use Comcast's contracted newsgroups service
from Giganews. There are over 4000 microsoft.public.* newsgroups
carried by Giganews.

When posting in microsoft.public.* and microsoft.private.* newsgroups,
I use Microsoft's NNTP servers but I can, if I choose, use Comcast's
NNTP server (and I did for awhile, or when Microsoft's NNTP server
isn't responsive). I use Microsoft's NNTP servers to lessen the
impact to my monthly bandwidth quota with Comcast.

You really thought msnews.microsoft.public was a *private* NNTP server
in that it doesn't propagate its posts to other NNTP servers? Or that
Microsoft only accepted posts that propagate to it from other NNTP
servers but doesn't propagate any of them out to other NNTP servers?

I had a similar problem, trying every thing until I hit upon this solution.
When setting up the account the for newsgroups in the
Tools/accounts/news/properties/ click on the server tab show server name as
"newsgroups.comcast.net". Check "Server requires me to log on" and make the
Account name your FULL Comcast email
user address, . Voila! It worked for me. hope this helps.
