Quoting, locating threads
Hello,
Every version of OE that I know of has a big problem with quoting (i.e., putting in the '' down the side). If the post being replied to is HTML or has a single "funny" character anywhere, it simply refuses to do it. In the groups that I frequent there is an increasing number of posts that you can't reply to without getting this problem. Other newsreaders, such as Xnews and Google Groups, can quote properly, so why can't OE? When will Microsoft fix this problem? Also, if I use Find in the Edit menu and I get a list of posts that match my search, how do I go to the thread in which the post is located? I can go to the main view and use Shift+F3 to search for the subject line, but this does not work if the subject line had been changed since the original post. How can I find the thread no matter what? Thanks, David |
Quoting, locating threads
1) The quote character () doesn't appear if the sender used
Quoted-printable, or HTML formatting Quotation Mark Character May Not Be Used in a Reply http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=154312 OE: No Quote Characters When Using Quoted Printable Format http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=168779 OE-QuoteFix http://home.in.tum.de/~jain/software/oe-quotefix/ 2) Are you using Edit, Find Message or Edit, Find Message in this folder? Sounds like you are using the former. If you use the latter (which doesn't give you as many search options), it positions you in the newsgroup list at the found message. If you have messages Grouped by Conversation, you can then move about the thread. After that, pressing F3 will move you to the next found message if that wasn't the one you wanted. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "DavidW" wrote in message ... That should do nicely. (But it's a bit sad that it takes amateur programmers to fix these things.) 2) Are you using Edit, Find Message or Edit, Find Message in this folder? Sorry. I'm using Edit, Find, Message... "Find message in this folder" looks the same as Shift+F3. Sounds like you are using the former. If you use the latter (which doesn't give you as many search options), it positions you in the newsgroup list at the found message. If you have messages Grouped by Conversation, you can then move about the thread. Yes, but it won't search all the hidden headers, and, as you say, its options are very limited. After that, pressing F3 will move you to the next found message if that wasn't the one you wanted. Sometimes I search for messages by a particular author and want to go to the threads those posts are in, but if the subject line has changed since the OP I know of no way to do it. Or, I have "Group Messages by Conversation" turned off so I can see the newest messages, but someone adds a message with a changed subject line and I want to turn "Group..." back on and go to the thread the post is in (e.g., to see what's around it or simply to turn Watch on for that thread).
