Lost emails in folders - various websites haven't helped
It all started two days ago when I opened OE and my inbox was completely
empty. I imported files from .dbx sources however all 2005 emails are gone. Plus I've lost many of my emails in various OE folders, but not all folders, only some. I've gone to the key websites for OE6, which discuss various remedies. However, my problem seems to be different. The key OE help websites say I'll find a corrupted file that perhaps isn't readable. They discuss compacting the files. And some other remedies. However, when I follow the various directions, there are no corrupted files to be found or their size is so small they cannot house the number of emails I had in those files originally. A couple of times, I clicked on a file, and the contents just disappeared as the file opened, which would suggest corruption. However, the file(s) in the Store folder is (are) empty or very small. The emails must be somewhere, right? Virus scan doesn't show anything abnormal. Thanks. |

Also note if any have a (x) where x is a number with the filenames such as Inbox(1).dbx I would suggest creating a new Identity and set it as the default Identity File | Identities | Add new Identity Switch to it, set up the accounts, then File | Identities | Manage Identities and set the new Identity as default. post back with the results of the Search (do the search first) then create the new Identity. |

I did the search, created a new identity and imported the files...same files
as the main identity. Should I have done differently? Thanks. "DGuess" wrote: "JayGo" wrote in message ... It all started two days ago when I opened OE and my inbox was completely empty. Did you see any Inbox.dbx and Inbox(1).dbx file and similar for other mail folders? Inbox(1).dbx would be the newer of the files as OE will put it in to replace the Inbox.dbx. The Inbox.dbx would be the older one with the messages in it that you will need to move to a temp folder to prepare for import. You might also find a Inbox.dbt file as well. That's the info I'm looking for. |

I think when OE opens and when it finds a dbt file, it deletes it. steve That's the info I'm looking for. |

The problem is the messages have been wiped out of the files (for whatever
reason) and you won't be able to recover them with programs that look at the files, because they aren't in them anymore. See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2 and 3, which are the most often encountered causes for this corruption. In some cases the corruption results in corrupt files and the messages can often be recovered from them then (see point 4 on that page), but what likely occured in your case is that the file got wiped for whatever reason. There is a chance that the messages could still be on the disk clusters, and if so, my DBXpress program (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/) will analyze the entire hard drive and find and recover them (its the only program that does this). But if the disk clusters subsequently have been overwritten, the messages are gone. cheers, steve "JayGo" wrote in message ... Steve,
I've seen your products. Do you think the $5 product will help? I'm on a budget. What is the direct link for that? Hi JayGo,
Unfortunately, as I said previously, it appears that the messages no longer in the files, so any program that attempts to retrieve the messages from them is going to fail. At least that's the impression I get from your description. I think at this point the only thing that might help is DBXpress (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/) with its extract from disk feature. It will analyze the hard drive disk clusters as opposed to what is just in the files, and may be able to recover the messages. Backup frequently in the future, as this sort of thing is happening more and more to people. cheers, steve "JayGo" wrote in message ... Steve, I've seen your products.
