Spam and junk messages

Just wondering...

Why does this particular group get so many junk messages?

I "hang out" in the Excel groups and we rarely get any junk, and when we do,
MS (someone?) removes it.

Standard cost/benefit analysis offers an explanation.
Sending out spam/junk is now so cheap that loonies
can afford it, and automatic, viz. messages may be
sent to NGs that the sender has never heard of. It is
just the ambient noise of the "information age."

Spam gets removed here. Usually takes a while.
