Default problem sending e-mail

When I try to send an e-mail I get the following error message:

"An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No,
Error Number: 0x800C0131"

The only way to send the message is to reboot the computer. And now even
that doesn't work.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem? [Note: I use Outlook
Express 6 on Windows 98]

Much appreciated. Thanks.

It looks like your SMTP port is set to 0, change it to 25.

Thanks for the response. I checked and it was already set at 25. Any other
thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks.

Default problem sending e-mail

See this first:
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/probl...htm#foldersdbx

If compacting does not resolve the problem, read the consequences, and
follow the directions below.

0x800c0131: Damaged or missing folders.dbx file

Symptoms

You are unable to send email, and you receive the following message:

Unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP Port: 0 Secu No [SSL] Error:
0x800c0131

Cause
This behavior can occur if the Folders.dbx file is missing, damaged, or
using the read-only attribute.
Resolution
Rename the Folders.dbx file:
1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
2. In the Named box, type folders.dbx.
3. In the Look In box, click your primary hard disk (usually drive C), and
then click Find Now.
4. Right-click the Folders.dbx file, and then click Rename.
5. Type folders.old, and then click OK.
6. Start Outlook Express. This creates a new Folders.dbx file automatically.

Thanks. It worked great and has solved the problem. I really appreciate
your help. But, in the process of doing so one of my folders (containing a
category of old e-mails) has disappeared. Any way to retrieve it?

Thanks.

Does the dbx file still exist?

In Windows Explorer, click on the file and drag it to the Desktop. Open OE
and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on your desktop.
***Copy a message from any folder to the new one. You MUST do this.*** Close
OE. Go back to Windows Explorer and Click Desktop and drag the folder from
the Desktop to the OE store folder that you clicked on to reveal the .dbx
files. Prompt - "Do you want to overwrite......."? Click Yes.

I'm a pepper, You're a pepper,
He's a pepper, She's a pepper.
Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?

Remember that Dr. Pepper jingle? If you do, you must be at least 40 yo.

Yes, but that jingle is from the seventies.
