Error report on returned mail.

It means that the e-mail address that the message was sent to is not
correct.

If this is a message that you sent, then you need to find out the
correct address.

If you did not send the original message, this can be one of 4 things:
1) Some spammer is sending the original messages and using your e-mail
address as the sender.
2) Someone else has a PC infected with a virus and the virus is sending
itself as the original message and using your e-mail address as the
sender.
3) The message is the virus itself, pretending to be a returned mail.
4) Your PC is infected with a virus and it has been sending itself. And
this is really a returned mail that your PC sent.

In cases 1, 2, and 3 above, the messages are not coming from your PC and
are not going through your e-mail account. There's nothing you can do
to prevent anyone from sending an e-mail with your e-mail address as the
From header, just as you can't prevent anyone from sending a postal mail
and putting your name and address as the return address. At this point
all you can do is filter out the messages. Your ISP may offer some
filtering at the mail server.

To make sure that case 4 above is not the cause, you should check your
PC with an updated anti-virus program.

Thanks for your replies.
The email address is correct, even hitting 'reply' still results in the mail
being returned with that error code. It is a business email address, a large
newspaper printers in America, and even mail sent to the webmaster there
comes back.

Some mail systems (such as MS Exchange servers) are known for removing the
original error message in a reject, and creating their own version of a
message failure code. I expect that the whole return would have to be
posted before anybody could attempt to analyze the failure accurately. From
as little of the message as you have supplied, though, the meaning is in
these words of the message: "Unknown address". It is just that the
returning SMTP server may be lying about what it saw from the rejecting
SMTP server.

When you Reply to a message, the Reply To address specified by the Sender is
used (cf. OE Tools Accounts Mail [mail account] Properties General
Reply address).

Try manually replacing the automatically-populated Reply To address with one
you know is good.

PA Bear, I havejust seen your reply. I have tried hitting reply, and typing
the address manually, neither works, same thing each time. As I mentioned
earlier, the mail from the webmaster at the same place is also returned
undeliverable.

Jim Pickering February 24th 06 12:22 AM

Error report on returned mail.

See if any of the info in the threads at this link help you understand what
may be happening:
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=Un...ress+error+591

As a general rule, mail is returned undeliverable if the address does not
translate correctly. Errors in punctuation, syntax, etc., can make a
message undeliverable. Reply to addresses are often "spoofed" so clicking a
Reply button does not guarantee success. Try inserting your own address
into the Send to line and see if you receive it. If so, the problem is with
an incorrect address.
