OE Sending mail PROBLEM
 
Damn.....Did clean install of Win XP Pro SP2, made a new OE6 Identity
(before setting up account and connecting to internet) and I still have the
problem of REPLYING to received emails!!What has gone wrong??




A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Subject '
Emailing: KickingElephants1.wmv', Account: 'mail.ozemail.com.au', Server:
'mail.ozemail.com.au', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800CCC19

OE Sending mail PROBLEM
 
Hi Frank,

This is Geoff (also known earlier on the newsgroup as Moir - but always
under this subject heading) and I am sending this post from another computer
(because I cannot reply using my own computer - the crux of the problem).

Here is a copy of the original error message and the only I get;

"A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Subject ' ',
Account: 'mail.iinet.net.au', Server: 'mail.m.iinet.net.au', Protocol: SMTP,
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19"

My ISP and I have spoken at great length regarding this problem, removed my
account, added back in again, re did the server settings and all this still
made no difference.

I have uninstalled my anti-virus program, uninstalled my ZoneAlarm, turned
off the Windows firewall, have no anti-spam program and still cannot send
any REPLY.

I have deleted Outbox, Sent and Pop3iudl. Still not able to REPLY.

I have reformatted my hard drive, clean install of WinXP, created a new
identity under OE6 (which I now use as the default identity instead of the
Main Identity) before I set up my account with my ISP. I have tried
increasing the timeout for sending emails and newsgroup posts but this did
not work either. I can send a NEW Compose email but CANNOT reply to ones
that have come in. I cannot reply to posts in these newsgroups either.

After placing the error number in Google search I was lead to Microsoft Site
which indicated also problems with various anti-virus programs. I do not use
any of the programs mentioned (I use Computer Associates EZ Trust). But I
would have thought that a clean install of the operating system would rid me
of the problem. Unfortunately this is not the case.

I really am at my wits end trying to solve this problem.

And I do appreciate you interest and help as I appreciate help from PA Bear
and Bruce Hagen (whom I expect will also read this post).

I see this post, but was hoping it was fixed. Since there was multiple
posts, (I know you had no choice), forgive me for anything that is repeated.

Not the problem since you have turned them off, but never run two firewalls
at the same time.

Were you ever using Norton? Add/Remove many times does not remove it
completely.

To remove Norton completely, see:

It is also possible for *bugs* to remain on your computer even with a clean

have been able to reply and I haven't made or tried any changes from earlier
times.

which indicated also problems with various anti-virus programs. I do not
use
any of the programs mentioned (I use Computer Associates EZ Trust). But I
would have thought that a clean install of the operating system would rid
me
of the problem. Unfortunately this is not the case.

I really am at my wits end trying to solve this problem.

I wonder if something is going on at my ISP? Mmmmm.......

Never used Norton/Symantec for years (back in the days when it was a
"simple" program and didn't try and take over your computer. :-)

Well I hope I am not back here again with this problem in the foreseeable
future!!

any of the programs mentioned (I use Computer Associates EZ Trust). But
I
would have thought that a clean install of the operating system would
rid me
of the problem. Unfortunately this is not the case.

I really am at my wits end trying to solve this problem.

This is usually caused by an anti-spam program or and anti-virus set
to
scan
email.

Turn off email scanning in your anti-virus. It provides no added
protection. After doing so it may be necessary to reset the server
names
in
OE.

Email scanning slows down Sending and Receiving, sometimes enough that

So Symantec used to say this often and clearly. The newer stuff
doesn't
have the statement included as it was considered an embarrassment. If
you
know anyone who programs for Norton try to get them to talk about it.
