Hello,
I have rules to flag newsgroup posts from certain people as Ignore, but I don't want responses to those posts ignored, which is what's happening now. If an ignored poster starts a thread, every other post in the thread is ignored. How can I stop this? Also, what exactly does "Stop processing more rules" mean? I have it on, on advice, but I don't know why I need it. |

A1.If you've "flagged" certain posters as Ignored via Message | Ignore
Conversation, WYSIWYG. If you "flagged" the poster via Blocked Senders, no thread should be marked as Ignored. A2. What I get is "Mark the message as watched or ignored" if it satisfies the rules. If you "flagged" the poster via Blocked Senders, no thread should be marked as Ignored. I think I had trouble with Blocked Senders not doing what I wanted before (maybe deleting messages altogether? - which is a bit drastic and irreversible), which is why I use rules to set them to ignore. I'm getting the feeling that I can't do what I want. A2. See: Message Rules Tips http://www.insideoe.com/tips/rules.htm Why doesn't my rule work? http://www.insideoe.com/faqs/why.htm#rules Thanks for the links. They'll be useful, but I don't see an explanation of "Stop processing more rules" there. |

WYSIWYG. Delete the "flag" rule and use Blocked Sender instead (or just
ignore 'em). DavidW wrote: PA Bear [MS MVP] wrote: A1.If you've "flagged" certain posters as Ignored via Message | Ignore Conversation, WYSIWYG. The rules don't give me a choice on that. In OE, marking a message as ignored or watched via a rule does NOT mark the entire thread (existing or future posts) to also get get similarly marked. So even if you use a view that hides ignored messages, the unmarked messages will still show up. Marking watched or ignored which marks the entire thread that way only works when you manually tag a particular post within a thread. Doesn't work that way with rules, though. |

In OE, marking a message as ignored or watched via a rule does NOT mark the entire thread (existing or future posts) to also get get similarly marked. It doesn't mark existing replies ignored (using Apply Now), but it does mark future replies ignored. When I read all new messages in one newsgroup earlier, the OP of some threads was marked ignored according to the rules, but so was every other post inside the thread by people who aren't supposed to be ignored. If it did the same with new posts that it does with existing posts I'd be happy. So even if you use a view that hides ignored messages, the unmarked messages will still show up. Marking watched or ignored which marks the entire thread that way only works when you manually tag a particular post within a thread. Doesn't work that way with rules, though. Well, rules are working that way for me. |

Why don't you just KF the people you don't wish to see posts from? If you don't want to see posts from , create a From rule that deletes that address and also check Stop processing more rules. Forget about ignore rules. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA |

Also, what exactly does "Stop processing more rules" mean? I have it
on, on advice, but I don't know why I need it. "Stop processing more rules" is a bit of a misnomer that used to confuse me too. It doesn't really mean "Stop processing more rules." It' means "Stop processing more rules with THIS message." For example, let's say you have two rules: 1. Mark everything with "quintessential" in the subject line green. 2. Delete anything with "aardvark" in the subject line. If you don't include "Stop processing more rules" in the first rule, anything with "quintessential aardvark" in the subject line is going to get deleted (after it's marked green). -- Bob http://www.kanyak.com |
