Set up the account on the laptop the same as on the desktop. Tools |
Accounts | Mail | Add and enter the account info under all tabs.

If both computers are using the same e-mail address, on both machines:

Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced - Check: Leave a copy of
messages on the server.

On one machine only, check to Delete messages after X days to assure the
server does not get clogged up.

If you mail service offers web mail, that may be the better route to go.
That way when you get back, you won't have to synchronize your sent
messages.

On the other hand, unless you've been leaving a copy of messages on the
server, you won't have access to previous messages.

Although if you go the route the Bruce discusses, you won't have your
old mail on the laptop either, unless you copy the messages from your
desk top before the trip.
