No. You should never use e-mail scanning with OE regardless of the program.
And with AVG, it is advisable to install it in Custom Mode and opt out of e-mail scanning at that point. You may end up with a conflict with the Windows Security Center otherwise. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "John Brown" wrote in message ... Would you know if that is correct and I should have this disabled?...the details say...Link Scanner works with Internet Explorer and consists of two features, AVG Active Surf-Shield and AVG Search-Shield... Did you reinstall in custom node as recommended, or just uncheck e-mail scanning? If you didn't, I would reinstall. It only takes a few minutes. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA |

The following from.....
http://www.grisoft.com/ww.faq.num-1066 LinkScanner - what is it? LinkScanner is a new security component. It is part of all AVG commercial editions. You can find it in the AVG user interface and you can change its configuration there as well. You can find 3 options when you open the LinkScanner component: Enable AVG Search-Shield It checks the SEARCHED (using Yahoo or Google services right now) web pages content. Enable AVG Active Surf-Shield It checks the VISITED web pages content while the web page is loading. Enable reporting of exploited websites to AVG This service sends a report about found insecure web page to our lab for more analysis. The LinkScanner component can be connected with the AVG Security Toolbar, which is part of Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox Internet browsers. You suggest reinstalling - why?...all I wish to know is if its best to have LinkScanner checked or unchecked if anyone has views? I have installed AVG 8 on two computers. I used the "Custom" install, and deselected email scanning during install; as Bruce recommends. I don't have any LinkScanner message on either installation. I'd recommend doing as Bruce suggests, and reinstall AVG8 without the email scanning module. ================= Don't you have any mention of LinkScanner on this AVG page?:- http://tinyurl.com/5k8y7r |
