0x800CCC0E IXP_E_FAILED_TO_CONNECT Cannot connect to server
Troubleshooting error messages that you receive when you are using OL and OE [ignore any Mail-specific content] http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813514 When the error's encountered using Mail, email scanning by your anti-virus application is usually the cause of the problem. However, this scanning does not pertain to downloads from and uploads to newsservers. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? Are you absolutely certain the news account's configured properly? Are you having any other connection problems? Do you get the same error if you attempt to access the newsserver in the dead-of-the-night or very early morning (e.g., between 3 and 6 AM)? Do you have the same problem if you attempt to access the newsserver in a new identity (File | Identities | Add new identity) or using another computer? No offense but is there any possibility that someone installed Parental Control or internet filtering on the weekend? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ bill wrote: Sorry i forgot to put in the error code Configuration: Account: news.verizon.net Server: news.verizon.net User name: bhanford Protocol: NNTP Port: 119 Secure(SSL): 0 Code: 800ccc0e "bill" wrote: I had verizon newsgroups up in till sun night. than it stopped working, I now get "unable to connect to server". Are you connected to the Internet via Verizon when you try to use
newsgroups? If you are using some other Internet connection, that can be the issue. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "bill" helpme.com wrote in message ... Their server is not responding on that port. You didn't mention using a non-standard port. I'm not on the Verizon network when doing the telnet test; however, if they reject external connects to their server then I shouldn't get a timeout and instead an immediate connect rejection. Do the telnet test yourself while on their network. |

I have avg 7.5 I had 8.0 but removed it to many problems. I use adware anti spyware, and have zone alarm firewall. I know it's configured right I had verizon on the line and they configured a new one for me still didn't work. I have no other conection problems and it dosn't matter what time I try, I get the same error. The only thing I didn't try is a new identity i'll try that now. as far as changing anything it's only me and the wife, and she is limited as far as computer savy.no filtering. What bothers me is that I also use xnews, and it doesn't work there either but all other news groups do work, ie microsoft, grc etc. I'm going to try a new id i'll get back with the results. What about?...
