lost contacts - help!
When my OE was updated to OE 6 I lost all of my contacts!!!
How can I get them back???? |
lost contacts - help!
You can only update to OE6 by installing a new Windows version, i.e. Win98
to XP. Is this what you did? Tell us a little more. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Kristie Gustafson" wrote in message ... When my OE was updated to OE 6 I lost all of my contacts!!! How can I get them back???? |

No I didn't install a new windows version. In fact I'm not quite sure how I
got the OE6 update? When I had shut down my computer this morning because they were putting a new electric box on our house, it said there were updates being installed - I didn't pay attention to it - then when I turned it back on this afternoon, I had OE6?? I do not understand. You are posting using XP/SP2. You always had OE6 on it.
No other version of OE has ever come with XP. Do an Advanced search and include Hidden Files and Folders. I don't understand either! But when I logged into my email this afternoon
it had changed and I received a "Welcome to Outlook Express 6" email at 1:06 PM?? I did the *.wab search before and my address book was empty! "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... I do not understand. Is MS Outlook (or MS Office) also installed?
• Do you have this Registry key?... HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WAB\WAB4 • If not, STOP; If so, is there a DWORD named UseOutlook (NB: no space) and is its value set to 1 (one)? • If not, STOP; If so, Address Book is configured to share contacts with Outlook, even if you don't use it (can happen with the install of Office). Change the value to 0 (zero), Address Book should be available to you and all should be well. (If that DWORD is not present, don't create it, and don't alter any other DWORD values.) Note that any changes (additions, deletions, edits) made while sharing was enabled will not be available (displayed) in Address Book when sharing is disabled. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Kristie Gustafson wrote: When my OE was updated to OE 6 I lost all of my contacts!!! Did you lose your saved messages as well? File | Identities | Manage
Identities. Do you have more than one? -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Kristie Gustafson" wrote in message ... I don't understand either! No, I was actually able to import all of my messages - including sent and
deleted ones. In Identities, I have only one - "Main Identity" "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... Did you lose your saved messages as well? File | Identities | Manage Identities. If you imported messages, you imported them from another identity or
directory. A new identity was created somehow. I have a feeling you didn't do the search for the Address Book correctly. Try this: In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. Now search for: *.wab and *.wa~ -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Kristie Gustafson" wrote in message ... Yes, MS Office with MS Outlook 2003 is installed on my computer, but I
cannot access MS Outlook - I can only access Excel, Power Point, and Word. "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote in message ... Is MS Outlook (or MS Office) also installed? • Do you have this Registry key?...
