Often when I try and post a new question, I cannot do so. I'm signed in, I
click on 'new' and then 'question' and nothing happens. Today it worked -
I'm happy! But, I've been dying to ask this question.

You've been dying to ask this question. But, you didn't ask it?

You're right. I didn't ask it clearly - why can't I post to the group most
of the time? Instead, when I click on 'new' and then 'question', nothing
happens.

The Web interface is a piece of crap. Use Outlook Express as your newsreader
instead.

Setting up Outlook Express Newsreader for MSNews:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/ou...snewreader.htm
And:
http://www.insideoe.com/resources/co...tm#setupmsnews

Or just click on this link with OE opened.

Thanks. Will try that. (And I'll suggest that they include that information
in the FAQ's).

Hi Mary Ann,

Thanks for posting the link you use to access this newsgroup via IE6.

I see the same as you, when I click on 'new' and then 'question', nothing
happens.

I am not even going to try and trouble shoot the reason.

I agree with Bruce's comment.......

Disable your third-party pop-up blocker or use OE to access MS newsgroups.

Some don't even get the popup menu associated with the New button,
so be grateful you're getting that far. ; }

You should then consider if your symptoms are different when you are already
logged in with a "Live ID". E.g. if you are already logged in you won't need
to get a prompt to do so and you won't need to be redirected from the login
session back to your web interface page, which would then *subsequently*
induce a popup window to show you your composition window.

Also, even though you have had the good luck to see the New button's
popup menu and if you have minimized all the switching by logging in first,
you still have to consider if a popup stopper could be preventing the composition
window from appearing because *it* looks like a popup _window_.

Besides all those easily understood hurdles some posters have discovered
that they happen to have some third-party programs which somehow further
interfere with the above procedures.

Programs installed by HP have been cited as particular suspects.

Subject: Can't get "New Question" window to pop up on other computer
Date: Thu, 19 Jun 2008 03:08:06 -0700
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...f41&sloc=en-us

Actually I have just realized that that discussion leaves an ambiguity
about "New Question". E.g. did the poster see the popup _menu_
or not (i.e. only reporting the final desired result not being seen and
not clarifying what was seen.)

Another possibility is that there are different "portals" which provide
access to some smaller sets of newsgroups and some are known to be
less well maintained than others. IOW the cause of the symptom
then would have nothing to do with the poster's machine but with
the server they were trying to use. FWIW I tried the one you cited
and the one I cited and they both seem to work fine.

As others are telling you, posting using OE is much simpler. ; )
