Default Combining identities

I have had no success with a problem which forces me to occasionally create
a new identity. I unfortunately created some on the fly and now have
messages scattered throughout identities.

My desire is to combine all past identities into one new one containing all
the past messages and addresses from all the identities.

I do know how to bring one old identity forward using file/import/messages
but believe doing a second would overwrite first.

Hints please.

Mel

Import will add messages, not overwrite.

What is the problem that's causing you to generate new identities
periodically?

Basically its if I send a message of any significant size such as a 100k or
200k text or graphic it starts to send but aborts after 20 or so %. Totally
unpredictable, may send 1.5mb jpg then fail on 40K jpg.
Most of the better known experts, my isp, phone co,and new modem have tried
to fix it but all we came up with was a workaround "new id" which fixes it
from hours to months then it reoccurs. Dozens of messages on this subject.

Have you done/practice the following?

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and
causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes
and has even been responsible for lose of messages. Your up-to-date A/V
program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program
and reinstall in Custom Mode and opt out of e-mail scanning when the option
arises.

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your
mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the regular
resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

They would not, nor should they as it is NOT the subject of this thread but
a reply to a question from Sinner.
