I'm having a server time out problem in OE6. Using 56k Dial-up, it's been
working well for year or so. But lately, it times out after a minute of trying to download a message. On DSL it works fine. I have the time outs turned up as high as they can go. I've uninstalled anti-virus software, turned off all firewall and cleared the account using a webmail interface. I sent 1 message to the account as a test, then dialed up and same problem. I deleted the connection and the modem and reinstalled them both, same problem. I reinstalled OE and IE, same problem. I finally did a system restore to a period when i was certain that it worked and no luck. The browser is fine and i'm stumped. Yet it functions well on DSL or any other high speed connection, but no dialup connection from multiple isp's will work. In most cases, it offers the Winsock Error - 10053 most times. Any help will be appreciated. Silas |

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection.
Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'Rawdons Mail', Server: 'mail.islandroofingtt.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2. All updates to date are installed. Troubleshooting error messages that you receive when you are using OL and OE
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813514 Your current Identity may have been damaged by your anti-virus app's email scanning (see below), especially if its the default Main Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity (File Identities Add new identity). Assuming all is well, import messages from the old Identity before deleting it (File Identities Manage Identities). To avoid such corruption in futu - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm. - Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only). - Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection. -- ~PA Bear Usuallysilas wrote: Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. After doing so it may be necessary to reset the server names in OE. Thanks, however, I have complied with thise guides just as they were written
and the problem prevailed. Remember that this phenomenon is happening only a baseband connection, it works well on broadband. I have found the casue though and it wasn't anything suggested in this forum. The system restore informations last checkpoint, logs the installation of a component called "Software Subscription Service 2.0". I restored the system to the point before and now if functions normally on dial-up. I tested it by undo-ing the restoration and the problem returned. I've been since researching this component and finding little or no information about it. There's no extended information either as to whether it's Microsoft, Symantec or some other software provider.
