I switch from the default at start identity to the secondary identity it
shows message titles but only get the hour glass in the view pane, then when
I switch back to the default identity I get the same promblem of nothing but
the hour glass turning in the view pane?

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown
your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place.

- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages), it provides no additional protection,
and even Symantec says it's not necessary:

QP
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick response, I worked through the link and advice you
posted but unfortunately I still have the same problem?
To clarify: OE starts in the default identity and I can see and read all
emails, when I change to my secondary Identity I can see the header (Titles)
but only get the hour glass spinning in the lower view pane.
If I make my secondary Identity the default things are reversed, I can see
all mail and read them, now change to what was my original default Identity
and I can see the emails but get the hour glass spinning and can't view them?

One or both of your current Identities may be damaged. If one of them is
the default Main Identity, start with that one per the following:

Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity...

File | Identities | Add new identity

Assuming all is well, (1) compact all folders in the old identity, (2)
import messages from the old identity into the new one, and then (3) delete
the old one (File | Identities | Manage Identities).

If the other identity's still showing issues, repeat the above for that
identity.

To avoid such corruption in future, see the caveats in my previous reply.

problems in OE.

Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity...

File | Identities | Add new identity

Assuming all is well, (1) compact all folders in the old identity, (2)
import messages from the old identity into the new one, and then (3)
delete
the old one (File | Identities | Manage Identities).

If the other identity's still showing issues, repeat the above for that
identity.

To avoid such corruption in future, see the caveats in my previous
reply.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick response, I worked through the link and advice
you
posted but unfortunately I still have the same problem?
To clarify: OE starts in the default identity and I can see and read
all
emails, when I change to my secondary Identity I can see the header
(Titles)
but only get the hour glass spinning in the lower view pane.
If I make my secondary Identity the default things are reversed, I can
see
all mail and read them, now change to what was my original default
Identity
and I can see the emails but get the hour glass spinning and can't
view
them?

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to
local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a
manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or
shutdown
your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place.

- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can
cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages), it provides no additional
protection,
and even Symantec says it's not necessary:

QP
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against
viruses
that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus
Auto-Protect
scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including
email
and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of
this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum
protection,
keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that
you
have the most recent virus definitions.
