Help importing WLM messages into OE6

Hello!

Like an idiot, I imported everything from OE6, including several years worth
of archived messages, into Windows Live Mail (WLM) and have been running
that for several months. I hate it. It's slow, just goes "duh" all to
often, and is simply not intuitive.

I want to go back to OE6, at least while Microsoft still supports Hotmail
access from it, which was why I migrated in the first place.

How can I export from WLM on a system that does NOT have Outlook, (hence no
MAPI client, and unable to export to Microsoft Exchange), and get everything
I've taken in since the migration back into OE6?

Google searches for an answer say to drag the .eml files into an open
folder. Tried that, doesn't work, or I'm doing it wrong. (Has anyone else
noticed that google responses are getting less and less relevant, loading up
forum responses instead of companies you ask for and such?) Anyway, can't
find it elsewhere.

Thanks for any help!

First, all of your MSOE messages that were in the message store when you
installed WLM should still be there.

Second, WLM stores email as .eml files. Locate the WLM message store folder,
and you will find them. With MSOE open, create a new storage folder; call
it, "Imported", if you like. Highlight all of the .eml files later than the
install date for WLM by dragging the highighted .eml files to the folder in
MSOE.

The location of the WLM message store can be found by checking the
"Maintenance" tab from the "Tools | Options" menu, same as with MSOE. When
navigating to that location, you will need to set your file view options to
"Show hidden files/folders".

If you are just using a Hotmail account or IMAP account, you don't need
to do anything with those messages. When you go back to OE and connect
to the mail server, it will synchronize the messages with the server.

Also, unless you deleted messages in OE after migrating, all the old
messages are still in OE.

And if for a POP3 server in WLM you had the Tools, Accounts, Mail,
Properties, Advanced, Leave a copy on the server, when you go back top
OE and receive mail, all the messages that OE hasn't yet received will
download.

That potentially still leaves some messages to move. That would include
Sent messages in a POP3 account, received messages in a POP3 account if
you didn't use the Leave a copy in WLM, and anything you may have filed
in Storage Folders in WLM and no longer associated with a mail account.

You can use a double drag-and-drop to move messages in either direction
between WLM and Outlook Express (OE). Create an empty Windows folder.
Then in WLM select all the messages in a folder (or just the ones you
need), then drag-and-drop to the Windows folder. Then select all the
messages in the Windows folder and drag-and-drop into an OE folder of
your choice.

You need to always start the first drag-and-drop into an empty Windows
folder because of the way the EML files are named. So you need to use
either a separate Windows folder for each WLM/OE folder, or after
completing the second drag-and-drop empty the Windows folder and then
reuse it for the next WLM/OE folder to move.

This worked! I guess the trick was to use a temporary import folder and
THEN move to the proper folders.

THANKS VERY MUCH!!!
