I know how to change the size of the font for reading and writing messages,
but I don't know how to change the font size in the upper "Messages" area.
They all seem to be about an 8 and that's too small for me. I've looked at
options but don't seem to have found the answer.

I'm missing something here. If you can change it for reading, and writing,
(composing), I'm not sure what you are asking.

If you mean Message | New, or Message New - Using, You have to put the
cursor in the Message Body area before any changes will be able to take
place.

can I change the font size there?

Forgive me, but are we talking about reading a message you receive, or the
size o fonts when you are composing an e-mail?

Oh. Are you referring to the size of the fonts of the message headers
themselves?

Right click on the Desktop | Properties | Appearance. The font size setting
is at the bottom. Note that this will change the font size in other places
as well.

Right click a blank spot on your desktop and click Properties | Appearance |
Advanced.
Click the down arrow for the Item field and choose icon. Make your
changes. Windows will use this size and font in all sorts of places and so
will some other programs.
