Error message 0x800CCC3C
I keep getting the following error message when I try to send out an email
with a Word attachment to groups I've set up in Outlook Express: The server reported an error. Server: 'http://oe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.com/cgi-bin/hmdata', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Precondition Failed', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC3C. The groups vary in size from about 35 to 95 recipients. I'm sending to one group at a time. I have been able to send out individual emails though. Can anyone help? |

In days gone by, that error meant:
This error message means that you reached the daily limit of recipients of 100 per day. All should be back to normal after 24 hours since your last sent message. But you probably are sending to more addresses at one time than your ISP allows. Try a group of 20 and see if that works. 25 is a very common limit. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "kls" wrote in message ... Bruce, wow - thanks for the quick response!
I didn't realize I had a recipient limit. I tried sending to a smaller group and still got the same message. I'll wait the 24 hours and see if that helps. It seems odd because I have sent this same type of message out to the same groups for months and have never had this problem. Why would it crop up all of a sudden? I did go through and delete my temporary internet files, deleted my outbox, and re-registered my library, etc. but that didn't help either. I'll let you know if it works later today after the 24 hours. Thanks again for responding so quickly - you're the best!! You're welcome.
It could also be a temporary problem on Hotmail's end. They do have a history of late and will generate many different error messages until the problem is cleared up. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "kls" wrote in message ... Well, the messages finally went through. It wasn't quite 24 hours but right
now I'm just happy it worked. I think it might have been the time issue but of course I'm not really sure. Thanks again for your help Bruce. Again, you're welcome.
Wish I could tell you the definitive cause and resolution, but with Hotmail, I don't even try. Glad the messages were finally sent. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "kls" wrote in message ... Well, the messages finally went through. About 3 years ago, MSN/Hotmail instituted a new policy for free accounts:
You are allowed to send a maximum of 100 messages in any 24 hour period. The error you received indicates that you have exceeded the quota. Note that one (1) message sent to fifty (50) recipients counts as fifty (50) messages. Send two such messages and you're done for the next 24 hours. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org kls wrote: I keep getting the following error message when I try to send out an email with a Word attachment to groups I've set up in Outlook Express: The server reported an error. Two groups of 35 (plus another group of 30), or one of 95 (plus another group of 5) per 24 hour period with MSN Hotmail; the free version. If you are routinely sending more than that, you need a different email service provider. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

Hi - wanted all of you to know that I finally got this resolved.
We are not using the free Hotmail / MSN account - we pay extra for the "Plus" account. With that in mind, I contacted MSN via email and described the problem. It turns out that in their effort to eliminate spam they have put a daily limit on the number of emails you can send (of course you guys had already let me know about that). But if you contact them and they verify that you are not spamming they can do some sort of fix on their end which allows you to send out our multiple emails with no problem. Now I'm not sure if this is only for the Plus account. Thanks again for all the help - you guys really know your stuff!! Hope this helps! "N.
