Import ost data file to OE 6
 

I copied an ".ost" data file from my company's desktop to my thumb drive. How
do I import this "ost" file to the OE 6 of my laptop as the FILE - IMPORT
function cannot allow it ? Thks.

You have to convert the .ost file to a .pst file on the machine with Outlook
first. Then you can import the pst files into OE.

If you don't know how to convert the ost files to pst, ask in an Outlook
newsgroup, or Google for it.

I understand Outlook can import pst file but not ost file. Under Outlook, I
tried the following : FILE - IMPORT AND EXPORT - Import from another
program or file - Outlook Express 4X,5X,6X - "No internet account were
found to import " message displayed hoping to access the ost data file but
no avail.Any further suggestions pls. ?

This article says that a 2003 ost file will not work with Outlook 2000.

Sorry but there seemed to be a misunderstanding.Originally my query was all
along on OE 6 not being able to import an ost data file at all. I thought
that Outlook could maybe import this ost file and as an example did a
walkthrough on the functions available. Unfortunately it was not successful
and I am back to square one.

I pointed out that a newer version ost file may not import into an older
version Outlook.
Do you know the versions?

Import ost data file to OE 6
 

Outlook Express (OE) has no way to import OST files.

Even with PST files, OE can't import them directly. For PST files, OE
requires that the PST file be in use in Office Outlook on the same PC.
OE then uses MAPI calls to have have Office Outlook pass the messages to
it. So unless you can get the OST files into Office Outlook first,
there is no way you can get them into OE.
