![]() Hi Bruce. I am trying to set up the reader from the site you posted. When I type "microsoft.public. windowsxp" on the Newsgroup Subscription window, I get a list of groups that don't look anything like the list that appears on the "Windows XP Newsgroups" where I've been going to normally through IE or AOL browser. How do I know which ones to subscribe so I can get the same ones I usually use? Example: Windows XP General, Windows XP basics, Windows Update, Internet Explorer/Outlook Express etc. etc. By the way, I am the same poster with edimerq name. I changed it. -- edith "Bruce Hagen" wrote: Setting up Outlook Express Newsreader for MSNews: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/ou...snewreader.htm -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "edimerq" wrote in message news ![]() Can somebody tell me how to set up Outlook Express so I can access these groups from there? They are there. Don't put too much into the search. Type in windowsxp and
you will see the XP groups. Here are some to get you started. Thanks for answering so quick. I am going to try it again. The problem I have
is that when I get a list of groups, I don't know what they are. All I get for titles is: "microsoft.public.wind..." I have to subscribe to each one first, then when it gets moved to the pane on the left side is when I can see what they are. Then, if it is something I am not interested in, I unsubscribe from it. Is that the way it works? Or is there some trick to make it easier. Thanks -- edith "Bruce Hagen" wrote: They are there. Don't put too much into the search. Clicking on them will open the newsgroup in your default newsreader. (Yes, that list is badly in need of updating.) em21 wrote: Hi Bruce. I am trying to set up the reader from the site you posted. Thanks pa Bear. That link worked great. I just had to make Outlook my

Forget about the: "microsoft.public.wind..." etc. Like I said, define your
search better. Leave out the microsoft.public part and just look for the specific words in the group. Just like using Help | Contacts and Index. If you're not sure, use Go To instead of Subscribe. I just had to make Outlook my default reader first. Outlook? I would think Outlook Express? wink You can also create a rule to only download messages for the last X days when going to a new group. It still takes the same time to download, but you end up with less posts. If you want to download newsgroups, but don't want hundreds, or thousands, of messages, you can create a message rule such as this: Tools | Message Rules | News. Box 1: Where the message was sent more than days ago Box 2: Delete it & Stop processing more rules Box 3: Click on "Days" and choose the # of days you want. Name the rule. In Tools | Options | Read - Uncheck: Get XXX headers at a time. When you go to, or subscribe to a newsgroup, it will only download the messages for the number of days you selected. Opinions on this vary, but in Tools | Accounts | News | Properties | General, I have Include this account when checking for new messages checked. When OE automatically checks for mail, (however often you have it set for), it will also download any new news messages at the same time. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "em21" wrote in message ...
