OE automatically replying to received e-mails

Trying to help a friend. So far have checked that auto-reply is not on,and
no message rules have been created at all. Here is what is happening (his
words)

When I receive an email, from anyone, they receive an immediate reply email
from my address with nothing in the body of the email. It is a reply to the
original email and preceded by whatever original subject was. This has
been happening for the last several months and never occured before. No
changes were made to any settings that i'm aware of. I looked at my Outlook
Express options/settings and don't see any options for auto reply or anything
that was changed

I am able to reply, forward and use any action that I would normally be
able to so I'm not experiencing any troubles on that front.

I don't know where else to look for the problem. He is using Comcast as his
ISP and his OE set to download messages to OE & remove from the server.
Thank you for any suggestions and help.

Many ISPs have an auto-reply option, maybe Comcast does? I would assume it
would be activated at the Comcast Website under his login. If the option was
accidentally set and no message was created, that would explain it.

Bruce, Yes, Comcast does have the option for auto-reply as well as
auto-forward, but neither one are set & the OP says he only has the one
account in comcast, and one Identity in OE. Do you have any other ideas?
Could something have gotten corrupted in OE that could cause this issue? I
know, I am stretching here :)

Try a new identity.

canned

You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main
Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it.
If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old
identity and delete it.

Are all three accounts using the same identity? If yes, remove the account,
reboot and then add it back.

If they are three separate identities, see my previous reply.

If the problem persists, try a new identity anyway.

You are /sure/ there are no message rules involved?
