Well, well, well. I printed the link you gave.
http://www.insideoe.com/problems/errors.htm#crash. Started to do the steps. Went to open OE and magically, it opened. I have done nothing since my last post. It opened. I see I have one hotmail folder but that's it. No other hotmail folders. It tried to go to mail.comcast.net. I got this message-"Dialing attempt 1. Unable to establish a connection". Of course it won't connect, I don't have Comcast account! It goes to "work offline". I have to uncheck the work offline in tools on the MSN home page just to get to this page! I tried to delete the other people from the account but I do not have their passwords. Comcast is no help because I don't have an account. Show me where in the settings are so I can delete comcast as my mail client and make hotmail as my client. "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: 1. Not entirely correct. If you ever used OE with a free Hotmail account in the past, and not allowed that account to lapse, it will still work. I just tried it on the one account I have which does still work. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

That is an odd duck, and I really have no clue how it works, or how to fix it when it breaks. Apparently Qwest support just hands you off to Windows Live support, and Windows Live support just hands you off to Qwest support. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

Q. "Have you ever been able to access (a) *this* account (not any other ones)
in OE". A. Yes. Q. "since you switched from Comcast to Qwest"? A. No. This is when it all started. I have deleted all references to Comcast I could find. Even searched registry for any other reference to Comcast. Q. "Is it a account or a account"? A. I have a email address at (one I've had for at least 7 years. It was my surfing junk mail account when I had other providers) which is now my only active email account now. I had a email account name with Comcast through OE. I would just open OE and it would sign on to Comcast and get my mail. Which is what it is still trying to do now with Hotmail. Q. "Is this account associated with Qwest's Partner Agreement with MSN and can you access this account in MSN Mail"? A. Not sure I know what you mean. When I got Qwest, MSN said welcome to MSN. Don't really remember. Been to long. I use Hotmail because OE became unusable. IN RE the Comcast account: Q. "OE Tools | Accounts | Mail: Select (highlight) the Comcast account and press the REMOVE button." A. Comcast is not listed as asked above. Long story short: You will be able to access the Hotmail account in OE via
POP3 access, but it's currently set-up for something called WebDAV access. Proceed as follows: 1. Open OE Tools | Accounts | Mail: Select (highlight) the current Hotmail account and press the REMOVE button. 2. Close OE & reboot for good measure. 3. Open a browser window to this page: http://windowslivehelp.com/solutions...k-express.aspx 4a. Open OE Tools | Accounts | click on ADD | MAIL and follow the wizard's prompts, entering the correct settings per #3 above. 4b. Now open OE Tools | Accounts | [Hotmail] | Properties | Advanced | Delivery: = If you do NOT check (enable) the "Leave messages on the server" option, your Hotmail messages will NOT be available at www.hotmail.com nor will they be available to OE running on another computer. = Enabled/disable the other two (2) options as desired. 5. From time to time, you will want to access the account at www.hotmail.com and review the contents of the folders there (e.g., review the Junk Mail folder in case a message you wanted was filtered there instead; if you Move a message to the Inbox, OE will download the message the next time it polls the server for new messages). It provides no additional protection, it could be causing the problem, and even Symantec says it's not necessary: QP Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions. /QP http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...02111812533106 Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm -- ~PA Bear Joe T. wrote: Well, Jolly good ole chap! Joe T. wrote: Q. "Have you ever been able to access (a) *this* account (not any other ones) in OE". A. Yes. Hotmail is shown as default. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: IN RE the Hotmail account: 1. Once you get OE to open, see this page for instructions on how to access your Hotmail account in OE via POP3: http://windowslivehelp.com/solutions...k-express.aspx 3. Closely adhere to the following caveats to avoid such problems in the futu - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm - Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place. - Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It just sits there waiting. I would like to make OE my mail client again. |
