Outlook Express, Multiple User Accts, Home Computer, CPU Maxes Out

Hello,

I have my home computer running Windows XP and Outlook Express 6.0. Here's
my problem. I have formed three user accounts on my computer, two limited
accounts and one admin. account. When I try to use Outlook Express in my
limited accounts, OE will not fully open up and freezes. I look at the task
manager at this point and see that my CPU is maxed out-it's usually over 90%
running "msimn.exe" which I know has something to do with OE. But when I run
OE on my admin. account it works fine, even with the 3 identities I've formed
for 3 different email accounts my ISP allows.

http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread10656.html

If you look up this link on this forum, this person has the exact same
problem I'm having, but it's so old and the provided solutions are so full of
high tech jargon, I wonder if there is an easier solution to the problem or
maybe someone could "dumb" it down for me a bit?

I would prefer not to lose the emails I already have, but if that's not in
the cards, then I guess that's just how it goes.

I've looked on this forum and haven't found a thread about this particular
issue, but maybe I just missed it too. If the answer is somewhere I neglected
to look, any directions would truly be appreciated and I apologize now if the
directions are redundant.

Thank you in advance and my step children thank you because they really want
to use their own email addresses and I really don't like doing much as on the
computer as an admin. because I've heard it can be dangerous.

I'm really stumped.

Open OE, Tools, Options, Maintenance, Store Folder.
Right click, Select All, Right click, Copy.
Open a new message window, right click in the message area, Paste.
You should have something similar to this:
C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{E6FE2A32-A73D-4915-B144-46ACE62213EB}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express

Your long string of numbers and letters will be different.
In Windows Explorer, go to C:\Documents and Settings\*limited
username*\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{different string of
numbers and letters}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Move the dbx files out of the Outlook Express folder.

Switch to the limited user and see if OE opens.

The User Account's current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the
default Main Identity. Try one or more of the mail accounts in a new Named
Identity...

File | Identities | Add new identity

Assuming all is well, (1) compact all folders in the old identity, (2)
import messages from the old identity into the new one, and then (3) delete
the old one (File | Identities | Manage Identities).

To avoid such corruption in futu

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working
offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt to
close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting
is taking place.

- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages) and provides no additional protection:

Outlook Express, Multiple User Accts, Home Computer, CPU Maxes

Hello Mr. Sommer

I tried this. I couldn't get to the files you stated using Windows explorer,
I couldn't get to "local settings", but I did try accessing it with the run
command and found the .dbx files and deleted them. I deleted them because I
was unclear where to move them.

I tried starting OE as a limited user and it still wouldn't open up. It
would start but then it would peg my CPU into the 90% range again. I would
close it and it would give me the "unresponsive program" message and again I
sent the report to Microsoft.

PA Bear responded too, but I can't even open OE as any other user than the
administrator so I cannot attempt his solution as far as I understand his
solution.

I have scanned my computer for viruses too, none were found.

I appreciate your responses on a holiday weekend but any other ideas maybe...

Anyway, thanks for the replies so far. I find this to be such a peculiar
issue because no other programs get screwy as a limited user...everything
works fine except for OE...

Hello PA Bear,

I don't think I can do this because I cannot open OE as a limited user
period. I open it and it begins to open but what it does is pin my CPU to 90%
+ and when I close it, I receive a "non-responsive program message" and then
I send the report to Microsoft.

BUT I can open OE as the Admin User account and it works?

What I understood from your response is that I have to open OE as a limited
user, correct? Unfortunately, that's the problem, I cannot fully open OE as a
limited user.

Thanks for any further assistance or ideas! They are greatly appreciated by
my family and myself.

limited accounts, OE will not fully open up and freezes. I look at the
task
manager at this point and see that my CPU is maxed out-it's usually over
90%
running "msimn.exe" which I know has something to do with OE. But when I
run
OE on my admin. account it works fine, even with the 3 identities I've
formed for 3 different email accounts my ISP allows.

If you look up this link on this forum, this person has the exact same
problem I'm having, but it's so old and the provided solutions are so
full
of high tech jargon, I wonder if there is an easier solution to the
problem
or maybe someone could "dumb" it down for me a bit?

I would prefer not to lose the emails I already have, but if that's not
in
the cards, then I guess that's just how it goes.

I've looked on this forum and haven't found a thread about this
particular
issue, but maybe I just missed it too. If the answer is somewhere I
neglected to look, any directions would truly be appreciated and I
apologize now if the directions are redundant.

Thank you in advance and my step children thank you because they really
want
to use their own email addresses and I really don't like doing much as
on
the computer as an admin. because I've heard it can be dangerous.
