today as they were 4+ years ago.)

The caveats I posted were to help you avoid this problem in the future.

It was all about defects in the dbx-files and there is not the problem.
All i wanted to do and asked for is to re-install OE-6 but MS made that
impossible.

Reinstalling OE will *not* resolve your problem.

1. You can remove /access to/ IE and OE via Add/Remove Windows Components
but that does NOT uninstall either application.

You could have uninstalled IE7 via Add/Remove Programs (if IE7 was installed
after SP3 was installed) which automatically restores IE6 *but you did not
do this* so...

2. By doing a Repair Install (vs. a Clean Install), you've essentially
screwed the pooch and IE is now in a "confused" (unreliable; buggy) state;

The only way you're going to get a fully-functional WinXP and IE now would
be as follows:

Backup your personal data*, then do a format & clean install of Windows.
Please note that a Repair Install (AKA in-place upgrade) will NOT fix this!

After the clean install, you'll have the equivalent of a "new computer" so

from your message store (which would have fixed your original problem) then
open OE and compact all folders.
