I am use Win XP SP3 with Office 2003.
How can I set OE as the mail program for the Guest account, which does not have administrator privileges? I go into IE Internet Options Programs, select OE for E-Mail, then click OK. But when I re-enter IE Internet Options Programs, E-Mail has reverted to Outlook. I presume that is the reason why I cannot forward NG postings from OE. I get the Microsoft Office Outlook error "no profiles have been created". I have tried configure IE Internet Options Programs when do no other programs are running, notably OE. If non-administrator Guest is not permitted to make such a change, how can someone do this for Guest from an user account that does have administrator privilege? |

Can you tell me how to change the default setting from Outlook to OE for all Windows users on the system? Also, can you tell me why my change in IE does not "stick" for the Guest account? In other words, why can't the Guest user override the default? I am doing that as the user Guest, of course. Is there something that I, as administrator, need to do to allow such changes to the Guest account to "stick"? I confess: I'm not too savvy about Win XP user account and program configuration. There can be only one (1) default Mail Client for all WinXP User Accounts.
That being said, see this workaround: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/defaultmail.htm -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 www.banthecheck.com JoeU2004 wrote: Apparently not. That being said, see this workaround: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/defaultmail.htm Thanks. But for my purposes, this statement from that URL is key to my understanding the limitation: "Note that Windows XP's user interface does not provide you an option to set a per-user default email client. One setting affects all the users, machine-wide". I 'spose that is what you and Ron were trying to tell me. Sorry it didn't register. The operative word is "default". To me, a "default" is the value used unless and until a user chooses another option. So when y'all were talking about the "default" setting, I thought you were talking about some system-wide configuration, which I did not know how to do. But now I realize y'all were saying: when one user chooses a setting through IE Internet Options Programs, it (normally) affects all users (unless you use the tool offered at that URL). I did not realize that limitation existed. So I compromised my objectives and went ahead and changed the selection for the administrator account. And that has the desired effect for the Guest account. Not the ideal solution I was looking for; but it is sufficient. Thanks, "Bear" and Ron, for your patience. ----- original message ----- "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote in message ... There can be only one (1) default Mail Client for all WinXP User Accounts.
