Can OE be upgraded?
 

ToolsOptionsSpelling. Uncheck words in UPPERCASE.

Which "very deficient spell checker" are you using? Outlook Express never
had one of its own and relied on the Word spell checker or a third party
app.

It flags names as errors, whether the name starts with a capital or is all
caps, regardless of whether the box is checked or not. It also ignores the
box that tells it to ignore previous text on a reply.
