takes ages to load

i have noticed recently that outlook is now taking age to load.

when i click on the icon in the quick launch bar, the splash screen takes a
long time to disappear. i have tried using detect and repair but that hasnt
got rid of the problem

Try this fix.

I found this answer on Goggle and it worked.

Close Outlook
Search for the OUTCMD.DAT file
Delete this file.
Start Outlook. The program will create a new file.
