Which version of outlook?
 

I've just updated to windows xp. To send/receive emails I need to upgrade my
outlook. Just want to double check that i need outlook 2003. Can anyone
help?

All versions of Outlook will run on WIndows XP, from Outlook 97 through
Outloook 2003. What version d o you have that you believe you must upgrade
There may be a legitimate reason but it's not because you install Windows
XP.

I've solved the problem of the Fax. In theory I could keep with Outlook 97,
but to send/receive emails I would need Windows Messaging, right? And the
only version of messaging that I can find is off my old windows 98 disk (old
tools etc). The question therefore should be:

1) Is there an updated windows messaging within windows xp?
2) Or, does it come as part of Office 2003?

Ah, so this is the route of my problem!! So if i install office 97 on my
windows xp computer I can still add email services?

I always thought that to add an email service you had to add "windows
messaging" and use this. Looking at my Outlook 97 the only other option that
I have is Microsoft Mail. Is this the service that I should be using to
send/receive emails?

No. Yo need the Internet Mail Enhancement patch from Microsoft's Office
downloads if you plan to use internet mail, but I dint' need to add anything
to my XP system when I used Outlook 97 there.

You have to install the "Enhancement Patch" [1] for Outlook 97. This
patch is included in SR1 for Outlook 97 [2]. After you have installed
SR1 you should also install SR2 for Outlook 97 [3].
